Some are protesting in the streets, some are making plans in the living rooms in their houses, some are writing books, some are organising workshops, some are donating in silences, some are educating themselves, some are having tough conversations with friends and family. Seemingly inconspicuous acts serve as rebellious gestures against an entrenched system.

Firebombs were thrown and a riot police unit came under a barrage of Molotov cocktails. Protesting farmers with their tractors dumped chestnuts and apples on the pavement in the city of Thessaloniki, to protest over rising production costs. Police joined by officers from a special forces unit entered the grounds of the cityโ€™s public university where protesters had occupied the principalโ€™s office. Students are protesting in the streets of the city in response to a government bill allowing the establishment of private universities.
A revolution has many lanes.
๐’๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ & ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ examines the interplay of order and disorder within urban settings. By tracing the paths of activist protests that occurred during one week at the end of February 2024 in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, it ponders the remnants left behind mere days later, as life resumes its usual rhythm.
This project was exhibited on April 8, 2024, in Thessaloniki, Greece, as a part of the group exhibition โ€˜Fragments in Transitโ€™. The pop-up exhibition was organized by the MA Photography & Society @photographyandsociety of the Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague @royalacademyofart.thehague (The Netherlands) and Beetroot Studio @beetrootdesign (Greece).
A big thanks to Alex / Philosophy & Photography Lab @phlsph.lab for playing together on the ideas and concept of this project.ย Exhibition documentation: Nikรฉ Dolman @nikedolman
